CHONGQING, YANGTZE RIVER JIULONG BUND. | CHONGQING
As a core node of Chongqing's "Two Rivers and Four Banks" initiative, Jiulong Beach adopts the "Return to the Yangtze River" concept to address elevation gaps and seasonal fluctuation zones through three-dimensional spatial restructuring. Spanning 2.1 km of waterfront, the project establishes a tiered riverside system comprising a waterfront promenade, flexible pathway, and vitality corridor. Integrated with a bridge-elevator-station system that crosses the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, it connects residential areas to the riverfront. The design preserves Chongqing's traditional stepped terraces, featuring nine iconic staircases leading directly to the river, while incorporating eco-technologies like flood-resistant native plant gardens and green flood walls to create adaptable public spaces resilient to seasonal water-level changes.
Post-renovation, Jiulong Beach has emerged as an ecological-cultural landmark with nine themed zones, including the Jiulong Stairs, Jiulong Mural, and Jiulong Beach Plaza. In 2024, the launch of the Jiulongpu·Haoshijiangjing Riverside Market—blending trendy cultural products, local cuisine, and open-air concerts—revitalized nighttime economy. Collaborations with cultural resources like the Jianchuan Museum and the Decommissioned Warship 166 Exhibition fostered a "park + commerce + history" hybrid model. By enhancing waterfront accessibility and promoting resilient design, the project exemplifies Chongqing's urban riverfront renewal, deepening public engagement with the Yangtze River.
